“Remember the tragedy. Honor those those we lost. Never forget the heroes. And know what we became in the face of it… a people who stood together.” 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Perhaps one of the heaviest, most honorable, and most important things that parents and teachers will do in the next 24 hours will be to teach and discuss with young people one of the most horrific days in American history.

These young people.
Who weren’t there.
Who don’t remember.
Who can hardly comprehend what happened.
Who don’t know the fear that gripped our country, the lives that were lost, and the way our world changed in a matter of hours.

For many of us, it’s a vivid memory, but for our children, it is history.
And that makes it our responsibility to tell the story.

Not to frighten them, but to help them understand. To remember the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost. To honor the first responders and ordinary people who showed extraordinary courage. To teach them about compassion, sacrifice, resilience, and the importance of standing together in the face of unimaginable tragedy.

Because as horrific as that day was, it also revealed something remarkable about us.
It revealed our greatest strength: each other.

In the days that followed, strangers became neighbors. Communities came together. People reached for one another. We saw courage, compassion, sacrifice, and an extraordinary willingness to help someone else carry an unimaginable burden.

That is what I hope we teach our children.
Remember the tragedy. Honor those we lost. Never forget the heroes. And know what we became in the face of it… a people who stood together.
