In the wake of the Blizzard of 2026, widespread power outages continue to affect tens of thousands of residents across Cape Cod and the South Shore. As of late Wednesday, February 25, 2026, over 138,000 customers in Massachusetts remained without electricity, with the vast majority concentrated on the Cape, according to online sources.

Timeline: Eversource and National Grid crews from multiple states—including Michigan and Ohio—are working around the clock, but officials warn that full restoration for some individual homes could still take several days due to extensive grid damage and downed trees......................

These locations provide overnight accommodations and generally accept pets unless otherwise noted:
Hyannis: Barnstable Intermediate School (895 Falmouth Road) — Pets accepted.
South Yarmouth: Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School (210 Station Avenue) — Pets accepted.
Harwich: Cape Cod Regional Technical High School (351 Pleasant Lake Avenue) — Pets accepted.
Mashpee: Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Government Center (483 Great Neck Road South) — 24-hour; service animals only.

These centers are typically open for warmth, device charging, and sometimes food, but do not provide overnight beds:
Eastham: Eastham Public Library (190 Samoset Road) — Open for warming and internet; has generator power.
Falmouth: The Lawrence School (113 Lakeview Avenue) — Open until 9:30 PM; no pets.
South Dennis: Dennis Center for Active Living (685 Route 134) — Open 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM; pets allowed.
Orleans: Lower Cape TV (5 Namskaket Road) — Open 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM; pets welcome.

Important Notes
Transportation: If you need a ride to a shelter, call the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) at 508-385-1430 (Select Option 2). Service depends on road conditions.
Pet Care: If you cannot bring your pet to a specific shelter, MSPCA-Angell in Centerville is providing emergency housing for pets of displaced owners.
