Florida homeowners, this is helpful — but don’t get caught misunderstanding it.
Starting July 1, 2026, certain single-family home projects under $7,500 may be exempt from local building permits and inspections. But this does not mean every project is permit-free.
Permits may still be required for electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas, structural work, and properties in flood hazard areas. Larger projects also cannot be split up just to stay under $7,500.
Before starting work, check with your city/county building department.
Florida homeowners — save this before your next renovation.
Legislation waiving building permits on single-family residential projects valued under $7,500 was one of five bills Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law last week.
