Real Talk w/ Tanya 💬
"Can I buy a fixer-upper with an FHA loan?"
Short answer: yes. But the house has to pass the test first.
The FHA appraiser checks health and safety, not pretty — a roof with life left in it, working heat and plumbing, safe stairs and railings, no peeling paint on older homes. Ugly carpet and a dated kitchen? Those are fine.
And if the house can't pass as-is, the deal isn't dead: there's a renovation loan (FHA 203(k)) that rolls the purchase AND the repairs into one mortgage.
Know which loan fits the house before you fall in love with it.
