🏋️‍♀️ Training for Success: Athletics and Real Estate Have More in Common Than You Think

Athletic training isn't just about working harder. It's about self-awareness, discipline, strategy, and adapting to changing conditions. The same is true in today's real estate market.

We're navigating a market unlike anything we've seen in years. Inventory is sitting longer, buyers are more selective, and sellers can no longer rely on simply putting a sign in the yard and expecting multiple offers.

Just like an athlete shifts their focus from appearance to performance, homeowners and real estate professionals must shift their mindset from expectations to results.

✅ Strategic Pricing Matters
✅ Exceptional Marketing Matters
✅ Skilled Negotiation Matters
✅ Patience and Discipline Matter

In a market with stale inventory, the challenge isn't just selling a home. It's positioning it to stand out from the competition. Success requires a clear understanding of market conditions, a willingness to adjust the game plan, and an experienced negotiator who knows how to create opportunities when others see obstacles.

The strongest athletes don't win because they hope for the best. They win because they prepare, adapt, and execute with discipline.

The same formula applies to real estate today.

If you're considering buying or selling, let's discuss a strategy that aligns with today's market realities and positions you for success.

Life lessons are all around us.

Intentions are not always visible. They reveal themselves through the actions people take, or sometimes the actions they choose not to take.

Whether we are leaders, hosts, colleagues, or real estate professionals, balancing communication and understanding can be challenging. Many people are hesitant because they fear making the wrong decision or being hurt by past experiences.

One of the most valuable skills we can develop is the ability to "read the room." This goes beyond hearing words. It requires active listening, observing body language, and paying attention to what is being said and what is left unsaid. These cues can often tell us whether someone is ready to learn more about the next steps needed to move forward with their real estate goals.

Communication is much like fashion. Some styles are classic and timeless, some are trendy, and others are completely new. The most effective communicators know how to adapt their approach to fit their audience while remaining authentic.

When we truly listen and seek to understand, we create trust. And trust is what helps people feel confident enough to move forward, whether in business, relationships, or one of life's biggest decisions: buying or selling a home.

Are we focused on delivering our message, or are we focused on understanding the people in front of us?

Open house tips for buyers
Use these open house tips to get the most out of every walkthrough:

Do
Take off your shoes or wear booties if requested.
Greet the host and provide your name.
Sign in if necessary or requested (this is a safety issue for the seller and their agent).
Take notes on your phone about your likes, dislikes and follow-up questions.
Ask if you can capture a video (if the listing doesn't already include a video).
Respect other buyers and guests.
Wait for others to exit a room before you enter.
Provide feedback if requested.
Thank the person hosting the event.
Don't
Refuse to comply with an agent or homeowner's house rules.
Criticize the home or the owner's style.
Listen in on other visitors' conversations.
Touch the owner's belongings.
Let kids run around without supervision.
Bring food or beverages in (except water).
Reveal information that would compromise your negotiating power, like your budget or level of interest in the home.
Bring pets.

By passing the Host/Realtor can make them feel unsafe. I let my open house flow this past weekend and it was uncomfortable!
