Success looks different when you know who you’re building it for.

There was a time when it was easy to measure success mostly by numbers.

Production.
Revenue.
Growth.
Goals hit.

And I still believe in working hard, setting big goals, and building something meaningful.

But those things aren’t the destination.

They’re tools.

Tools that can create more freedom.

More time with the people you love.

More ability to be present when it matters.

More opportunities for your family.

More margin to say yes to the things you’ll actually remember years from now.

Business matters a lot to me.

But it isn’t the point.

The point is building a life worth coming home to.

That perspective has changed the way I think about success — and probably made me better at business too.

Expertise isn’t very useful if you can’t explain it.

Mortgage lending can get complicated fast.

Rates. Points. Credits. Buydowns. Mortgage insurance. Cash to close. Loan programs. Guidelines.

And enough acronyms to make your head hurt.

But here’s what I believe:

A client shouldn’t need to become a mortgage expert just to feel confident about their decision.

That’s my job.

My responsibility is to take something complicated, make it understandable, and help someone see the tradeoffs clearly.

I don’t want clients to simply hear what I recommend.

I want them to understand why.

Because when people understand their options, they ask better questions.

They make better decisions.

And they move forward with a lot more confidence.

The wins I remember most don’t show up on a scoreboard.

Coaching has taught me a lot about competition, but even more about character.

Can you stay composed when the game gets hard?

Can you be a good teammate when someone else gets the spotlight?

Can you shake off a bad inning and be ready for the next one?

Can you keep showing up when things don’t go your way?

Those lessons matter a lot more than the final score.

And the older I get, the more I realize they apply everywhere — family, business, leadership, and life.

Baseball gives us the setting.

The real goal is helping kids become people who know how to compete, respond, encourage, and grow.

Those are the wins I care about most.

Good advisors never stop being students.

One of the easiest mistakes to make after you’ve been doing something for a long time is assuming experience means you’ve seen it all.

You haven’t.

Markets change.
Guidelines change.
Technology changes.
Clients change.

And sometimes the biggest thing that needs to change is the way we think.

That’s why I still make a point to get in rooms where I can listen, learn, ask better questions, and have my assumptions challenged.

Experience is valuable.

But experience without curiosity can turn into complacency pretty quickly.

The people who trust me with major financial decisions deserve more than what I knew five years ago.

They deserve the best thinking I can bring them today.

Happy Labor Day! 🇺🇸

Days like today are a good reminder of what all the hard work is really for.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to build a career I love, serve the families who trust me, and—most importantly—create a life that gives me time with the people who matter most.

The beard actually has a backstory…
In the middle of COVID, my wife was pregnant with our second son. Two days before she gave birth, I decided to surprise her by shaving my beard completely off.
Pretty sure the shock almost sent her into labor. 😂

But that’s not really what’s happening.

You’re converting cash into home equity.

Which means the real question becomes:
How much of your liquidity should become equity today?
More down can mean:
• Lower monthly payment
• Less interest
• Potentially better loan terms

But keeping more cash available can mean:
• Stronger reserves
• More flexibility
• Capital for investments, renovations, emergencies, or opportunities

There isn’t one correct answer for everyone.

The smartest down payment is the one that fits your overall financial strategy.
