The electrical service wire on the left has seen better days. The wire sheathing is deteriorated and copper wire is now discolored to black from the excessive heat at the connection.

Here’s a good example of what thermal imaging can show you. The electrical service wires have damage sheathing from overheating but there’s no way to tell if this was caused previously or is an ongoing issue just by looking at the wires alone. The thermal imager allow us to see that the wires are over 300° and that this is an ongoing issue.
