This Friday marks 25 years since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and groups across our area are coming together to honor the lives lost and the heroes who responded.
In Grapevine, the annual Remembrance Ceremony begins at 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11 at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial (1000 Texan Trail).
Following the ceremony, MARCH 455 will feature 455 uniformed first responders from agencies across the region walking 1.3 miles through Grapevine in honor of the 455 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice that day. The march will begin at the memorial, travel through Historic Downtown Grapevine and conclude at Peace Plaza.
Also beginning at 7:30 a.m., the Grapevine High School wrestling team will host its annual 9/11 Tribute Climb at Mustang-Panther Stadium. Student-athletes and community members will climb 2,200 stadium steps, symbolizing the 110 stories of the World Trade Center towers and honoring the victims and first responders of Sept. 11.
Just down the road in Southlake, the city will host its annual September 11 Remembrance Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at Liberty Garden. The event will feature retired NYPD detective Bill Johnson, who worked at Ground Zero following the attacks, along with 2,977 flags representing each victim, opportunities to write messages of support to New York City first responders, and a moment of silence.
Whether through reflection, ceremony or service, these local events offer meaningful ways to remember the lives lost and the courage displayed on one of the most defining days in American history. ❤️🇺🇸
