Insurance Sucks (storm edition)
As an insurance agent for nearly 20 years, here is some advice regarding the hail storm and damage that may have occured:
1. Be careful with roofers coming by and offering a “free inspection”.
A. Inspections are always free
2. Not all roofers are from this area. Some just chase storms and typically do shoddy work. Many are from out of state.
3. Insurance companies NEVER forgive deductibles. If a roofer says they can help you with the deductible so you don’t have to pay it….tell them to go away.
A. its illegal
B. In order to protect their profit margin they WILL cut corners somewhere.
4. Find a reputable roofer and request an inspection.
A. You do not need “bids” from multiple roofers. If the insurance company pays for a new roof, you are only out the deductible regardless of the cost.
IF damage is found THEN call your insurance agent or insurance company to file a claim.
