I love my neighbors because they are kind, supportive, hardworking, generous, and always willing to lend a hand when someone needs one.
I don’t care who my neighbor falls in love with. I don’t care where they come from, what they look like, or what path brought them here. What I care about is the content of their character. Are they kind? Do they treat others with respect? Do they leave the world a little better than they found it?
The older I get, the more I realize that life is simply too short to spend it judging people for being themselves. I’d much rather spend my time being a good neighbor, offering a smile, helping when I can, and treating others the way I hope to be treated.
Maybe that’s one of the reasons I like the word “y’all” so much. It doesn’t leave anyone out. It’s warm, welcoming, and reminds us that we’re all part of the same community.
At the end of the day, we all want many of the same things… to be loved, accepted, valued, and to know we belong. If we can lead with kindness, empathy, and a little grace, we’ll find we have far more in common than we do differences.
Y’all are welcome here.
