Yesterday, my daughter Madison noticed a baby bird lying on the brick walkway in front of our home. My husband had spotted a nest in a nearby tree, so he carefully placed the baby bird back inside.
A few hours later, we discovered the little bird was back on the walkway again. My husband returned him to the nest a second time. Later that day, I checked on him and, sure enough, he was back in the same spot, just lying there.
By then, my husband was at work and the nest was too high for me to reach. With the help of my daughters, Madison and Olivia, we made a small nest out of packaging paper and gathered some grass to make it a little cozy. I placed the baby bird in our homemade nest and tucked it safely into a nearby bush, hoping its mother would return.
Hours passed, but no mother bird came. After doing some research, I found the Avian Wildlife Center and gave them a call. It was too late in the evening for me to make the drive, and I still needed to get the girls ready for bed. The staff advised me to gently wrap the baby bird in tissue paper to help keep it warm and bring it inside overnight so predators couldn’t get to it until I could bring the baby bird to them the next morning.
I checked on the little bird several times throughout the evening, hoping it would make it until morning. When I checked on the baby bird this morning, he was wide awake and chirping away.
We brought the baby bird to the Avian Wildlife Center this morning and entrusted it to their care. We’re wishing this little one all the best at its temporary home and hoping it will soon be flying free and living its best bird life.
A big thank you to the staff at the Avian Wildlife Center for their guidance and care. ❤️🐦
