HURRICANE HELENE ACTION ALERT. On Nov. 8, 2024, Governor Henry McMaster wrote a letter to the South Carolina Congressional Delegation regarding the devastation of Hurricane Helene and other recent disaster events on forestry and agriculture. According to Governor McMaster’s letter, Clemson Extension and the SC Forestry Commission gathered data from those impacted by Hurricane Helene and the other events. Clemson Extension and the Forestry Commission estimated the financial damage to forestry and agriculture in our state at $621 million including $194 million in timber related losses.
Please contact Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator Tim Scott, and your Congressman or Congresswoman asking them to support Governor McMaster’s request for an emergency relief package structured as a block grant to secure the necessary federal appropriations to assist in the recovery of our timberland owners and forest industry.
