The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day is not-so-arcane to some Texans!

It was on November 23, 1964, that Dr. Michael Debakey performed the world's first successful coronary artery bypass in Houston. Many Texans owe their lives to this man. Dr. Debakey's innovative artery grafts were first made in 1952 on his wife's sewing machine. They used dacron they had bought at a fabric store.
