(Last updated at 9:37 AM on Thursday, March 31, with new information concerning volunteer opportunities.)
For those affected by today’s tornado in Springdale, here’s a list of confirmed, local resources. I’ll update it as I learn more.
- The Jones Center, located at 922 East Emma Avenue in Springdale (map), is offering bottled water, hot coffee, and a safe place to be. As of noon today, the center is also offering hot meals and hot showers to those displaced by the storm. The center is also collecting supplies to help those affected by the storm. Supplies needed include toiletries, clothing, nonperishable food, blankets, trash bags, crates, and bottled water.
- Jose's Bar & Grill and Big Sexy Food - Springdale are both offering free meals to those displaced by the storm.
- Affected families can call the Springdale Public Schools’ help line at (479) 409-5031 to talk to a counselor or social worker.
- Treehouse Pantry has food bags available for pickup at 802 West Allen Avenue in Springdale (map) between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM this week.
- The Springdale Police Department and the Red Cross are coordinating and mobilizing volunteers out of the cafeteria at Southwest Junior High School in Springdale. (I’ve been told that the command center has moved across the street to CrossChurch.)
- The City of Springdale has set up a temporary response center at the Springdale Parks and Recreation Center at 1906 Cambridge Street. The center is intended for those in need of a meal as well as a commander center for first responders. (At this time, the need for meals here has been met.)
- The city is also directing those in need of food, clothing, and other supplies to The Compassion Center at 3157 West Sunset Avenue in Springdale (map). Items are being provided at no cost to those in need. (Learn more here.)
- If you have debris that needs to be removed, please contact Springdale’s Public Works office at (479) 756-7712 to schedule pickup. Debris needs to be separated into brush and general debris, and brush items need to be less than four feet in length.
- The Marshallese Educational Initiative is collecting clothing for all ages, as well as hygiene products. The organization is also accepting monetary donations to help those affected by Wednesday’s storm. If you need help, call (479) 365-7019.
- If you’re able to volunteer, please call Springdale’s Neighborhood Services at (479) 756-7712. They’re coordinating and mobilizing volunteers.
If you learn of other confirmed resources (or have updated information), please email me, and I’ll update this list.
