Did you know the James River Power Station sits on 2,000 acres? The acreage is owned by the city, City Utilities, and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and was decommissioned last year. A number of proposals are being considered for the site, namely plans to remove the dam and let the water flow downstream once again. Another consideration is use of the power plant for recreational activities.

The mixed-use development will have over 200 1, 2, 3-bedroom units accompanied by a pool and a dog park. There will be a 24,000 shopping center nearby, with a few notable national businesses and local restaurants expressing interest in the commercial space. Completion for the development to be known as the Iron Grain District, located at State Route MM and Sawyer Road, is slated for 2023.

Iron Grain District will feature a residential and commercial mix near Amazon fulfillment center.
