Congratulations Jen!
Get to know IWIL's 2019 Athena Award recipient Nominees!
Jennifer Call
How do you feel about being nominated for the ATHENA award?
I feel incredibly humbled to be recognized beside the caliber of women nominees. I am inspired to follow in the footsteps of the incredible women who have been my mentors and guiding light personally & professionally over the years.
What impact do you believe you have made on women’s lives?
Personally, I hope that I have shown my daughters and the young girls that I have mentored to follow their dreams, have confidence, believe in yourself and be kind. Kindness is the best physical attribute you can carry and you have to believe in yourself before anyone else will. Professionally, I hope I have exemplified how important integrity and character are for success in business; hard work, perseverance and supporting each other will continue to break barriers.
I have been taught by some phenomenal women that true character shines after failures; and how you pick yourself up. Success in all walks of life has a trail of failures on the path. I do my best to remind the women around me of the same. I have also been taught to be grateful for the journey and to give back along the way. “Paying it forward” and giving back to the community not only make a difference around you but leaves a positive feeling within.
How would you feel if you won the ATHENA award?
Honored, inspired and shocked; again based on the caliber of my fellow nominees.
Why do you think it’s important to support other women in our community professionally and personally?
I am a firm believer in surrounding yourself with people who make you better. For me, many of these people are women. I think women who thrive personally and professionally have a “tribe” of women around them who encourage each other. I would not be where I am without these ladies.
We continue to face stereotypes of competitiveness; pressures of society; home/work balance and so on. Who better to lean on and collaborate with than women facing the same challenges? Who better to share your emotional struggles of personal & professional balance then those experiencing the same? We are more effective and successful when we empower each other. Make the connections, learn from each other, inspire each other to raise our game and respect each other; we don’t all have to agree and yet we call all still succeed.
