Labor day was started in the late 1800's because labor activists believed in recognizing and honoring the impact American workers have on the health and prosperity of this country, and in giving those workers an opportunity to celebrate with their families.
Fast forward to 2026. The federal minimum wage has not been increased since 2009. A full-time minimum wage worker does not even earn enough to meet the federal poverty line. Since 2009, the cost of living has increased by an estimated 55%.
Make it make sense.
Anyway, if you're fortunate enough to have time off of work and disposable income to celebrate with, please remember to be kind to those who are making relaxation, celebration and safety possible.
