St. Augustine, Florida, often the talk of the town for its historical charm and unique character, has been racking up accolades over the past year. Crowned the Best Small Town 2023 by Southern Living, this amazing place I call home has a rich Spanish colonial heritage and a vibe like no other. Travel writer Valerie Rains couldn't help but gush over its delightful restaurants and bars, such as Boat Drinks, The Floridian, Casa Reina, and Collage. There are local treasures like St. George Street, Anastasia State Park, and the city's historical ties to the recent past of Dr. Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement all the way to colonial history!
Adding to the charm, St. Augustine Beach earned a spot among Tripadvisor's Top 25 Beaches in the U.S., while PBS's "Samantha Brown's Places to Love" showcased the city's allure earlier this year. With a nod to its beautiful beaches, Castillo de San Marcos, and the Lightner Museum, St. Augustine has been praised as one of the Best Beach Towns.
If that doesn't make you want to relocate I don't know what will! Ready to make the leap? Comment below!

Wanna meet your new neighbors without it being awkward? Read the caption!

So you've met your neighbors, shared a laugh or two, and even learned a little about each other. For some folks, that's plenty enough!

But if you're yearning for something more, to forge true friendships, to create bonds with your neighbors, you've got to put a little more skin in the game.

Extend a Helping Hand

Now, you might have already offered a helping hand to your new neighbors. But let's be honest, they're probably too polite to take you up on it. Nobody wants to be the first one in a relationship to say, "I owe you one."

So why not flip the script and ask them for a little help? Nothing fancy, just ask 'em for a cup of sugar or if they'd mind checking on your cat while you're out of town.

Once they've helped you out, they'll probably feel a little more comfortable asking you for help. And ain't that what community's all about?

Throw a Neighborhood Shindig

Now, this might sound a bit daunting, but it's as easy as pie. Just scribble a few simple invitations (tell everyone to bring a dish to pass!), pop them in all the mailboxes on your street and get ready to cut a rug!

On the day of the shindig, just hang a sign on your front door directing everyone to the backyard. You won't even have to clean your house!

In our first summer here, we had two neighborhood shindigs and it was so lovely to meet all the folks on our street.

Knowing that my neighbors would be there for me if I ever needed anything was a comfort, especially when I was home alone with the kids.

That's worth its weight in gold.

Invite Your Neighbors Over for Supper

Once you've shot the breeze at the neighborhood party, it's time to extend an invitation for supper!

This is my favorite part, because it's where the real friendships are forged. You get to learn about their lives, their stories, what makes them tick. It's where you go from being folks who wave at each other from across the street, to friends sharing their lives together.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go get em!

When folks start pouring in to st John county, you need more places to go when you get sick. And that's exactly what's happening in our little corner of St. Johns County.

For ages, we've had just the one hospital, Flagler Hospital, standing proud in St. Augustine. But these days, it seems like there's a medical building boom, with not one, not two, but three new hospitals in the pipeline.

Baptist Health is putting plans in place for a hospital right off the State Road 207 exit on I-95. But don't jump the gun, darling, 'cause a Baptist Health representative says it's starting off as an outpatient facility with doctor's offices.

Flagler Health is doubling their presence with a second hospital and medical park right by the Durbin Park shopping center.

And Ascension St. Vincent's is also joining the party, breaking ground for a hospital on County Road 210. They're not fooling around either, investing a whopping $115 million into a shiny new facility set to open next year.

The C.E.O. of Ascension Health, explained why "St. Johns County is one of the fastest growing counties in Florida and the nation."

So, what does this mean for us? Well, it's going to stir up some healthy competition, and the hospital leaders say that’s a good thing for us consumers.

As for the hospitals? baptisthealthjx, Flagler and Ascencion have their hands full!

We welcome the healthcare boom. And why not? In this race, the winner is the patient.

Have you heard about projectchanceincThey train service dogs to have just the right skills to help children diagnosed with autism and other developmental disabilities. They combine academics, clinical therapies, and parental support to help these kiddos reach their full potential and independence with the help of their furry friend.
These service dogs, open the door to social interactions because folks just love to pet them and ask questions. They become a bridge to the outside world, offering unconditional love and support during those tricky social situations.
Each of these dogs is specially trained to meet the unique needs of its child. For those little ones who struggle with sensory overload, these dogs help them experience the joy of communication and feeling understood. When a child shows impulsive, repetitive behaviors, these dogs are right there, helping to soothe and support.
And for those kiddos who like to run or wander, these dogs are trained to keep them safe and close. The children learn to be responsible for their fur baby, which helps them feel responsible for themselves too, with a bit of adult supervision, of course.
Aren’t these dogs just wonderful? They truly are a blessing, helping our the children of St. Augustine and beyond navigate this big world with a bit more ease and a lot more love. 🌟🐾❤️ Check out their website!

Send this to someone who is thinking about downsizing!

Downsizing Tip #1: Write It Down!

When you are going through the process of keep, donate, or trash, talk to your loved ones. Figure out exactly what they would like and make a note of it. You wouldn't want your precious items ending up in a shop with your loved ones having no clue about their significance, would you?

Downsizing Tip #2: the Big Stuff!

Those just starting to downsize often find themselves surprised when they can't give away or sell their upholstered furniture, formal dining room set, piano, china, and other family heirlooms.

But the virtual world of today has its perks. No matter where you live, you can sell items on eBay, Craigslist, and other online sites. And don't forget about donations to Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity and other charities.

Downsizing Tip #3: Why Not Upcycle?

Give your throw pillows a new look with linen tablecloths, turn a vintage suitcase into an end table, or make a quilt out of old T-shirts.

Downsizing Tip #4: Photos

Now, you might want to save photo sorting for last. Go through them one by one and pick out your favorites. You can make a photo album for each child and grandchild, or scan and digitize photos to discard prints (there are some great companies out there that will do this for you!)

Need a professional hand with downsizing? There are plenty of savvy individuals who can help you organize, downsize, and figure out what works best or hire a company like and let them help you figure out how to get rid of the overflow.

Many people talk about the freedom that comes from downsizing. Not only does it free up space, but also time.

Want to finally make the switch to smaller space and say goodbye to the stresses of a large home? Call me! I am an expert at making sure the transition is seamless.

You may recall the tale of Nancy Burke 's German Shepherd blessing us with a litter of twelve puppies on Labor Day of 2022. Well, Chris and I were fortunate enough to welcome one of those darling pups into our home. Our Pepper has blossomed from an adorable puppy into quite the spirited young dog. Given our cozy home and lack of a yard, accommodating Pepper has been an adventure. Thankfully, our dear friend has been an angel, taking Pepper for her much-needed morning runs.

I'm a proud member of the service organization, . Our Fort Myers chapter has a delightful Shepherd mascot, Zuke, who is a certified Therapy dog. He's a regular at nursing homes, schools, and the like. Witnessing Zuke in action at a recent convention inspired me. I thought to myself, "Pepper can do that!" She's got the brains of a scholar and a Labrador's love for people. So, we've embarked on a journey with Tracy to get Pepper her Canine Good Citizen certification, the first stepping stone to becoming a certified Therapy dog.

Let me tell you something, four-legged friends aren’t just for fetching sticks or chasing tails. No, these noble creatures also serve as lifelines for folks dealing with not just physical hitches, but mental burdens too. You see, when a person connects with an animal, it's like a spa day for your brain and the science behind it is amazing. These animals just have a way of melting away your worries and lifting your spirits. So next time you see a service dog, remember, they're doing more than just being man's best friend—they're making a world of difference. Y'all stay tuned for updates on our journey...
