This bill aims to protect our parks from development and has passed its first legislative hurdle! That means no golf courses, luxury lodges, or disruptive projects—just Florida’s natural beauty, safeguarded for future generations.

However, some environmental groups argue the bill doesn’t go far enough and could leave room for loopholes. As someone who values our parks, I want to see them fully protected.

The bill comes after news of the state's plans for a 'Great Outdoors Initiative' that would have included golf courses at state parks.

St. Johns County officials have approved a proposal to rezone a 3.94-acre property at King Street Extension and N. Clay Street for workforce housing, allowing the development of 17 single-family homes intended for middle-income workers like teachers and first responders. The homes, priced up to $260,000, must be owner-occupied for at least five years, with exceptions for military members. This initiative aims to provide affordable housing in an area where the median home price is $535,000, addressing the needs of local workers who often struggle to afford living in the community they serve.

SR-210 update. St. Johns County approved Acadia Healthcare’s $76.7M, 144-bed mental health and addiction facility despite an ongoing federal investigation. The “locked” center for Baker Act patients will open in late 2025, creating 200+ jobs. Acadia denies misconduct claims and will receive $1.6M in tax breaks.

A drug addiction and mental health facility run by an operator currently under federal investigation was issued a construction permit.
