The Inn at Rodanthe as it was named in the movie based on Nicholas Sparks popular novel, “Nights In Rodanthe,” starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane, is the most famous home on Hatteras Island, North Carolina.
"Nights in Rodanthe” embraced the majestic natural beauty of Hatteras Island and the focal point of the story, the Inn at Rodanthe, was depicted as a unique seaside inn overlooking the great Atlantic Ocean. In reality, the Inn at Rodanthe was threatened by coastal storms, erosion and repetitive ocean over wash and in danger of falling into the ocean.

This oceanfront Hatteras Island retreat was originally built in the 1980’s with pilings driven 14 feet into the sand and set in concrete. At the time the Inn in Rodanthe was built, there was 400 feet of beach in front of the house.

In the spring of 2009, the current owners from Newton, NC and extreme fans of the movie, heard about the current state of the Inn at Rodanthe and made the decision to purchase the home and save a piece of movie history. On January 4, 2010, the Inn at Rodanthe and an alternate oceanfront lot, only a short distance from the original site, was purchased in an effort to preserve and protect the home from future storms.

The home was moved from its original site by Expert House Movers (the same company that moved the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse). The Inn at Rodanthe weighing in at 83,000 pounds was jacked up, shored with cribbing underneath, loaded up onto beams and four pair of huge wheels, and readied for its move in a matter of just two days. The electric crews and other utility companies temporarily took down power lines and the police stopped traffic while the Inn at Rodanthe took a 30 minute journey on Highway 12 to its new location.

I LOVE what I do but there is almost always a huge misconception on what we do and how we get paid. Its not a secret so here ya go😊

The average FULL TIME REALTOR’s salary last year was $31,900 @ 40+ hours a week. (Notice I wrote full time 40+ hours not 0-20 hours a week) which is well below the living wage. As a REALTOR we do not get paid a hourly wage or salary and we only get paid if we sell a home and it closes. We can only get paid by broker to broker. As an agent you could work with someone days, weeks, months, or years with no guarantee of a sale ever.

Essentially we wake up each day unemployed going on Job Interviews and we deal with constant rejection. We dedicate time away from family, use our time, gas, pay for babysitters, miss dinner and weekends and seldomly take vacations. We are on 24/7! You constantly need to be on, or you could miss a opportunity. Once we do close a home, half goes to the other persons agent from the remaining half. We have lots of upfront expenses that must be paid out before we even get paid.

1916 Sears catalog home. They shipped the entire house to you by railroad car. Sears was like Ikea before Ikea.

Friends and family would come from all around to help the owner build it.

Most were built in New Jersey, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Sears sold more than 70,000 mail-order homes between 1908 and 1940. Some enthusiasts estimate that about 70% of Sears houses are still standing today.

Sears provided building plans and specifications, along with the lumber and any other materials needed. The shipment included everything from nails, screws, and paint to prebuilt building parts, such as staircases and dining nooks.

So I’ve partnered with a company that allows people to test drive a home. What does that mean? Well, the short of it is you get to shop for a house just like a buyer. You find a house that meets your (and their) requirements. They purchase the house. You lease the home to see if it’s the home you want, in the neighborhood you want, in the school district you want!!
