Greenwich and Stamford Modernism: A Tour of Historic Home InteriorsOctober 25, 2025 | 9:00 a.m. | 4 Hours (approx.)

If you don't already have day plans for October 25th, please join Historic Neighborhood Preservation and Histoury, the architectural tour people, for a tour of Modernist Stamford and Greenwich architecture not seen on previous tours. From the comfort of a charter bus, the tour will highlight modernist architecture in Greenwich and Stamford, with several special stops to see some interiors, including:
--a monumental David Specter residence
--the 1971 Hoffman House by locally renowned architect James Heather Evans
--in Greenwich, a bold 1970s stone house built by Norwegian stone masons
--the 1961 Edwin Paul House, one of the town's officially designated landmarks.

Hello preservation lovers,

Historic Neighborhood Preservation is grateful for your past support in our ongoing efforts to raise the visibility of preservation in Stamford.

This year our most visible push is supporting the efforts of Gary Kalan of Stamford and Brendan McGee of Rowayton to transform Stamford Harbor Lighthouse into an educational public resource for maritime and environmental education through their non-profit, which purchased the lighthouse and its surrounding 10 acres with the aim of restoring the foundation and lighthouse structure, rehabilitating submerged lands, creating an endowment fund. The lighthouse has graced Stamford Harbor for more than 140 years. To support the Lighthouse Project, please visit www.stamfordlighthouse.org. Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in the success of this project. Public use embodies the highest purpose of adaptive reuse. We invite you to join HNP in supporting the Stamford Harbor Lighthouse Project in this noble mission.

Speaking of public use, HNP is preparing a grant proposal focused on documenting and protecting valued and historic city-owned buildings. These buildings would be proposed for the city’s Cultural Resources Inventory to protect them from demolition.
We are still keeping tabs on the fate of:

• the remaining part of the Blickensderfer building, which is still embroiled in lawsuits after the state required Building and Land Technology to remediate contaminated soil.

• The Lofts at Yale and Towne buildings, whose owner, Gaia Real Estate is suing BLT, former owner Antares and the City of Stamford for withholding information about the structure’s original deteriorating wooden supports. Last year we filed a freedom of information request from the city, but have not yet received a response. We recently learned that Gaia is digging exploratory holes to see what can be done.

Please consider a donation to HNP to further our advocacy work. HNP needs funds to survey and advocate for Stamford’s historic resources to educate and convince government, developers and others to save buildings, and we need your support to do this work. Every contribution you make to HNP makes it easier for us to carry out our mission.

As Stamford’s only citywide non-profit organization dedicated to improving quality of life through the protection and preservation of the built environment and our historic heritage. Our city has grown dramatically over the past decade. As we welcome this vibrancy, let's also honor our historic past.

Thanks,
Judy Norinsky, President

Did you know that one of Stamford's most iconic landmarks is a literal beacon of light? Yes, the Stamford Lighthouse, which has graced Stamford Harbor for more than 140 years, has been purchased by a non-profit formed by two local residents who are raising money to renovate and transform it into a public resource.

Gary Kalan of Stamford and Brendan McGee of Rowayton, who head up the non-profit Stamford Harbor Lighthouse Project, are committed to restoring the lighthouse, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Their goal is to rehabilitate the entire structure, including its foundation and 10 acres of submerged lands, and to create an endowment fund to ensure its future maintenance and provide for environmental research and public education programs.

Public use embodies the highest purpose of adaptive reuse. This year, Historic Neighborhood Preservation (HNP) is committing its efforts to raise funds for this important project.
To learn more about and donate to the Lighthouse Project, please visit www.stamfordlighthouse.org. Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in the success of this project.

As Stamford’s citywide non-profit organization dedicated to improving quality of life through the protection and preservation of our historic heritage, we at HNP are excited to contribute to this important cause. Our city has grown dramatically over the past decade, and we welcome this vibrancy. As we contemplate our future, let's also honor our historic past.
