25 years later, I still remember exactly where I was.

September 11, 2001. I was at the Ben Lomond Hotel in Ogden, Utah on a business trip, getting ready to leave for the airport to head out to Albuquerque, NM.

As I was getting ready, I turned on the television and watched in disbelief as the Twin Towers were struck. I remember calling colleagues and clients telling them to turn on their TVs, while desperately trying to reach family and friends back on the East Coast—just hoping everyone was safe.

There was such an overwhelming feeling of helplessness being so far from home.

With the skies shut down, some in our group decided to drive home. I was grateful we didn't return the rental car because we would have gotten stranded, there were no cars to rent. I’ll never forget how eerie that drive felt. Not a single plane in the sky. Just silence—and the realization that our world had changed.

25 years later, I remember those we lost, the heroes who ran toward danger, and the families whose lives changed forever.

Some memories never fade. Some days should never be forgotten.
