Which one are you?? I pack everything and then worry I forgot something 😅🤣

Pack smart. (But maybe leave the kitchen sink at home.)

You don’t need to pack like you’re permanently relocating to the wilderness… but you do need to pack for the hike you’re actually taking. Research your route, terrain, weather, and conditions so you know what you’ll need, and what can stay home.

Start with the basics: shoes. Choose sturdy footwear that matches the trail, and don’t forget extra socks for longer hikes. Your feet will thank you. They’re carrying you the entire way, after all. The least you can do is not introduce them to the Rocky Mountains in flip flops.

P.S. Don’t forget water and food. Pack for the length of your hike and the conditions. Carry extra water when needed, and know if reliable water sources are available. Pack high-energy snacks and a little extra food… because “just around the bend” has a funny way of turning into several more bends.

In conclusion, pack what you need. Leave what you don’t. Your backpack (and your shoulders, family, and friends) will appreciate it.
