These five words can help describe something that matters in a Social Security Disability case: how your condition actually affects your ability to work.
Unpredictable: Your symptoms vary in a way that makes it difficult to know when you’ll be able to function consistently.
Unscheduled: Your condition may require breaks that can’t always be planned, whether that’s to lie down, use an inhaler, use the bathroom or manage symptoms.
Absent: Flare-ups or symptoms may cause you to miss work on a recurring basis.
Off task: Even when you’re physically present, pain, fatigue, brain fog, anxiety or other symptoms may interfere with your ability to stay focused on your work.
Pace: You may be able to complete certain tasks, but struggle to maintain the consistent speed and productivity expected throughout a workday.
The important part isn’t simply using these words. It’s explaining, truthfully and specifically, how your condition affects you and giving real examples that are consistent with your medical history.
