Within roughly 30 miles of downtown, the region holds six distinct lakes and reservoirs, from private, members-only club lakehouses to full-service state parks open for wake sports, and quieter backcountry water limited to paddles and fly rods. Each has its own character. The wildflower meadows come up around the shorelines, the trout are plentiful, and the paddleboards are out by June.
