⚠️ SCAM ALERT FOR HOME BUYERS & SELLERS ⚠️
We had a scam attempt happen right here in Erath County today involving fraudulent wire instructions during a real estate transaction. A scammer posed as the title company and sent fake wiring information to a client in an attempt to steal funds.
What made this especially dangerous is how convincing it looked:
• They used the actual title company name
• They used the closer’s name
• They even copied the email signature to make the message appear legitimate
These scammers are getting VERY sophisticated, and the emails can look 100% real.
PLEASE remember this:
🚨 NEVER wire money without verbally verifying the instructions first.
🚨 ALWAYS call the title company directly using a trusted phone number before sending funds.
🚨 Do not rely solely on email communication for wiring instructions.
Once wired funds are sent to a scammer, there is very little that can be done to recover the money. In many cases, it is gone for good within minutes.
Whether you’re buying, selling, or refinancing, take the extra step to verify everything. A simple phone call can save you from a devastating financial loss.
