NAR APPROVES OF FHFA’s NEW CREDIT SCORE MODELS

National Association of Realtors® President Leslie Rouda Smith issues a statement after the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced the validation and approval of both the FICO 10T credit score model and the VantageScore 4.0 credit score model for use by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

FHFA expects the implementation of using newer credit score models to be a multiyear effort. Integrating metrics that capture a better glimpse of market participants tract record of payments like rents, utilities and telecoms that will provide a more accurate depiction of a purchaser’s creditworthiness.

NAR has been an advocate for implementing newer credit models to help foster change in an effort to create systems to more accurately gauges purchasers’ ability to purchase a home. Adding these data metrics will ultimately give purchasers more opportunity to secure homes.
