Winter Storm
Avoid Slips, Trips, and Falls

Disclaimer: Snow and ice storms may affect your community during the winter months. While all reasonable effort is put towards controlling storm-related hazards by site management, as a service of Kettler, this bulletin is being issued to provide you with additional safety information. Always remember, should you notice an area of snow and ice in common areas not shoveled or plowed, immediately contact the management office. Thanks and let’s make this a safe winter season!!!

Here are some additional safety tips to help you avoid slips and falls during snow and ice storms:

• Avoid routes that have not yet been cleared or appear to be glazed over.

• Wear shoes that provide good traction.

• Keep your eyes on the path ahead of you.

• Dress warmly. Being cold may cause you to hurry or tense your muscles -- both of which can affect your balance.

• Give yourself plenty of time, don’t rush.

• Take short steps to keep your center of balance under you.

• Try to avoid walking with your hands in your pockets, this reduces your ability to use your arms for balance.

• Be extremely careful getting in and out of your vehicle. Steady yourself on the car before entering. When exiting, swing your legs around and place both feet on the pavement before you attempt to stand and keep a hold on the frame until you’ve exited to provide support should you slip.

• Don't take shortcuts. Always use sidewalks and the cleared paths provided in the parking lot. Avoid walking between parked cars.

• Be especially careful when stepping to different levels -- down or up steps or from curbs. Remember, grassy slopes can be as dangerous as snowy steps.

• Always use hand rails where provided.

• When walking after sunset or in shadowed areas, be alert for black ice -- particularly in the days following a storm.

• Use extra caution when walking at night.

• Avoid carrying heavy or bulky packages.

• When entering a building, clean the bottom of your shoes.
