Midcentury modern design was a movement that began after WWII. This fast shift in design quickly impacted interior, product and graphic design. “Midcentury modern design is rooted in functionality, clean lines, and simplicity, which reflected the world at that time," designer Amanda Thompson explains. "Homes were more linear, focused on maintaining a nuclear family and as such, the furniture design echoed this environment."

The most interesting home decor can take years to curate. New a generations are falling for MCM design. The results are reflected in the architecture of new prairie style homes and the resurgence of interest in original MCM homes.

We included warm colors and combined several textures when choosing soft goods and a variety of wood finishes to achieve an inviting feel in this sunny 1960s split level home in Rockville, MD.

coffered ceiling is a series of indentations or hollows on the surface of a ceiling. Coffered ceilings decoratively hide ceiling imperfections and create the illusion of height, but we just think they are beautiful!
