Proline Trencher tires are pretty awesome. All of our Mk3 rovers to date sport them. Great grip, conformation, sidewall grip…. I’m putting a set on my wife’s Trx4 Sport.

Lately, though, the test rig has been wearing these new shoes. JConcepts Ruptures. (Yeah. I know. Who first called them that?) Regardless of the name, this tire has not ruptured anything except for expectations.

The latest rover commissioned will ship with these tires. (But, before it goes, we will take advantage of it a bit, and try out the bigger version of these…) 😎

Recently, another builder implented their second price increase for the year. Their flagship offering has gone up 32%. (We have screenshots…. 😎). I can tell you part of the story…. component prices have gone UP. Seems like every industry has been hit these last two years. Camera Rover has also seen price increases. But, we haven’t increased our price. Our hope is that these increases have leveled off. Realization of that hope will be cause for celebration, since we’d love for every inspector with the need for a machine to have one.

Ferrets use the Radiolink AT9S. This transmitter provides configuration options used for tuning performance. The user friendly menus, convenient switch locations, and reliable controls help make the Mk3 system what it is.

Because of its layout and design, we can:
Turn lights on and off
Control throttle restrictions
Switch between 4WS and 2WS
Trim fore and aft steering
Select between front and rear camera views
Control photo and video

Soon, we may move from partial to full crab steer control.

Old post but good info! --->Each Ferret is designed to greatly reduce or eliminate the task of physically disconnecting the battery. If standard LiFePO4 (LiFe) battery usage practices are followed, the only time a battery disconnect is needed is when the rover is in for major maintenance, or when it is retired at end of life and scrapped.

The battery connects to the Ferret via an XT60 connector. This is undisturbed during normal operations. After passing through the connection, power reaches the electrical system through a switch, which makes or breaks both leads.

In addition to that, a charge port is present to allow charger connections without disconnecting the battery. In the picture below, you can see the charging port and it’s rubber dust seal. (Ahead of it, you can also see the ESC power switch.)

The main power switch and charge port were installed to make charging, storing and shipping the Ferret Mk3 easier and safer.

But this little thing is a game changer.…

One of the unique features defining a Ferret Mk3 Camera Rover is its rear facing camera. A low light, high resolution Foxeer gives the operator the ability to back out of complex and debris-strewn areas. Flipping a toggle switch changes his on screen view from front to rear. Instead of navigating Damnation Alley blindly by memory, and getting stuck, a Ferret driver simply drives out.

Combined with four wheel steering, and crab steering, the rear camera expands the capabilities of man and machine beyond others’. Ferrets have always sported this equipment combination, from the first Mk1 through to today’s exceptional Mk3.

Mk3 rovers wear some pretty good shoes. Proline Trencher tires grip well and help the Ferret to tame difficult terrain.

That said, keeping an eye out for advances in tech is good practice. I’ve seen good reviews for the JConcepts Ruptures. Some reliable equipment reviewers give them high marks, and call them out as potentially better than Trenchers or Voodoos.

I mounted up four of them tonight, and I’ll run them a bit in the coming days. They are sporting the stock foams. Let’s see how they run before tuning.
