Did you know that starting in 2027, a new Florida law requires every county and city to hold a public workshop and post a list of ways they could potentially cut 10% of next year's budget, WITHOUT cutting deputies, firefighters, or essential services?

Florida's new budget transparency law (HB 1329) is an exercise, not a mandate to cut, but it asks the question every taxpayer is asking:
“After years of growth, what can you cut?”
The answer can't be nothing.

So ask yourself: why does it feel like every Amendment 3 debate start with 911 and public safety, when the new law already says to protect them first?

Those lists will be public for all of us to see.

As you consider your vote on Amendment 3, take a moment to look at how much local government budgets have grown over the past 10 years, and then compare that with the things you’re having to put off or do without in your own household.

Over the same period that Florida’s population has grown by an estimated 16% and median wages have increased by roughly 52%, county property tax collections have increased by an average of 99%.

What does that growth mean for you and your family?

The map below shows how property tax collections have changed in each Florida county since 2015. Counties are color-coded by the percentage increase, with increases as high as 176%.

As you consider Amendment 3, we hope you’ll take a closer look at the numbers and consider how local government spending compares with the rising costs families are managing every day.

💰The impact will vary by community, and each city and county will have to evaluate its own budget and priorities.

🏡 But uncertainty about those decisions should not prevent Florida from addressing a known problem: the rising cost of owning a home.

🚨🚓🚒🚑Public safety also remains a priority, with remaining property tax revenue prioritized for critical services such as police and fire protection.
