It is critical for beachgoers to follow the clean, dark and flat guidelines during sea turtle nesting season. Remove all artificial objects and trash from the sand. Eliminate artificial light sources that disorient turtles. Ensure the sand surface is smooth and obstacle-free.

Realtor by day… watercolor student by early mornings, evenings, and travel days.

Some of my favorite paintings begin as photographs from our travels.

This turtle has quite a story.

A couple years ago I photographed him while scuba diving in Cozumel. (My dive buddy, aka my husband, spent more time and air in his tank waiting for me to get “just one more picture” than he’d probably like… but he indulges my interests…to a degree 😂)

Later I turned the photo into a paint-by-numbers. It was fun… but something was missing.

I realized I didn’t just want to color inside the lines. I wanted to learn how to actually paint.

So I picked what many people would consider the least forgiving medium…

WATERCOLOR 🎨🖌️

Fast forward through some local art classes, a lot of questionable paintings, muddy colors, YouTube tutorials, and enough practice paper to wallpaper a room…

…and this little turtle found his way back to my easel.

…And I was finally ready for him!

This time he’s becoming a birthday gift for my mom, (shhh don’t tell her! 🤫🤐)who told me recently that she would love me to paint one of my underwater photos for her someday.

Funny how one photograph can quietly change the direction of a hobby…and maybe even teach you that it’s never too late to start learning something completely new.

Turns out helping clients buy and sell homes isn’t the only creative thing I enjoy. 😊
