A lot of people think wire fraud looks obvious. It doesn't!
Here's how most real estate wire fraud actually happens:
A Buyer receives an email that LOOKS legitimate.
It may include:
The correct property address
1. The realtor’s name
2. The lender’s information
3. A realistic email signature
4. Wiring instructions
The buyer thinks: “Everything looks normal.” But the wiring instructions were changed.
And once the wire is sent, recovering those funds can become extremely difficult.
This is why we repeatedly tell buyers: NEVER trust wiring instructions sent only by email.
Always verify instructions directly with your title company using a known phone number.
We know it can feel repetitive.
We repeat it because it matters.
