🎃 Title Talk: Can I sign my closing documents remotely? In many transactions, the answer may be yes — and one option that can make closing more convenient is Remote Online Notarization, or RON.
RON allows certain documents to be signed and notarized electronically while the signer and notary are in different locations. Instead of sitting across the closing table, the signing can take place through a secure online platform using live audio and video, identity verification, electronic signatures, and an electronic notarial seal.
That can be especially helpful for buyers or sellers who are traveling, live out of the area, have demanding schedules, or simply cannot make it to the closing office in person. 💻🏡
However, remote signing is not automatically available for every closing. Whether RON can be used may depend on the type of documents involved, lender or underwriter requirements, the parties to the transaction, and other closing-specific factors. Some documents may be eligible for electronic signing while others could still require a traditional notarization or another signing method.
For example, a seller who has already moved out of the area may be able to complete eligible closing documents through a RON session rather than arranging an overnight package or traveling back for an in-person signing.
That’s why it’s always a good idea to discuss your signing plans with your title team early in the transaction. The sooner everyone knows where the parties will be on closing day, the more time there is to determine which options are available and coordinate a smooth signing.
💡 The takeaway: Remote closing options can offer flexibility and convenience, but every transaction is different.
Ask early. Close prepared. 🎃✨
