The Elite Falconry Experience

Living our best Highlands life, this was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done, and definitely a highlight of the trip.

After driving to Fife about an hour outside of Edinburgh, we met up with the amazing crew from Elite Falconry. They’ve got over 70 birds on site, either rescued or born in captivity; falconry is highly regulated in the UK, and I’m pretty sure the folks at Elite liked birds more than people (though they treated us great!)

We got the chance to go out into the fields with working birds Gonzo (the Eurasian Eagle Owl) and Aisha (a Harris hawk.) They paced us as we walked, swooping in to land on our gloves when we called them or offered food. Once in a lifetime experience, can’t recommend it enough!

I stopped in for a quiet breakfast to beat the lunch rush, and as a fan of great architecture, the interior is a masterclass in organic design. Today marks one year since the start of the Palisades and Altadena fires. Looking back at this photo, I’ve been reflecting on just how quickly things can shift.

​We are all defined by how we react to these challenges and unexpected turns in the road—whether it’s a natural disaster, an unexpected hurdle in daily life, or even a major new chapter like a new job or a growing family.

​On this anniversary, my thoughts are with everyone who was affected. It’s a reminder that life is never a straight line. These experiences don’t destroy us; but how we react to them is what shapes us, making us stronger and more resilient than we were before.

That’s why a termite inspection is always part of the escrow process.

DID YOU KNOW: you’re actually supposed to get your home inspected for termites every 3–5 years anyway.

It’s a relatively small cost that can save you a lot when it’s time to sell.
