2. Research the neighborhood: Some areas are in need of certain kinds of repairs more often. Research the area can help you find out what you should plan for when it comes to repairs.

3. Get a THOROUGH home inspection. A home inspection is your number one way to avoid unexpected repairs, so make sure that you find a good inspector and actually do the inspection! The resulting report will allow you to see what’s really going on with the property.

4. Negotiate repairs: If the inspection turns up some needed repairs, work with your agent to negotiate with the seller on covering those repair costs.
