Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is pushing for a phased elimination of homestead property taxes, arguing that revenue from nonhomestead properties, tourism, and wealthy newcomers can fill the gap. "Some rich guy from Brazil buys a mansion in Miami, they can still be taxed," he told Fox News. Florida property tax revenue has nearly doubled since 2019 to roughly $55-60 billion, leaving many homeowners squeezed.
