As a realtor not wanting to deal with my own tenant issues, i hired a local realtor that loves to do rental properties. He found me several tenants and pre-screened them. Now when you hear of a realtor that likes to help tenants find a home do a pre-screen you would expect no surprises.

We signed a lease and 3 months later the tenant stopped paying and I was left to deal with a bad tenant.

Long story short, trust no one to do your due diligence and do it yourself. I discovered that this tenant has at least 7 evictions on her record and yet somehow the agent who i relied on failed to report this to me.

• The decision to rent to the individual was based on zero evictions.
• Moral of the story is do your own homework.
• Just because you hired an agent does not mean you eliminate the headache.
• Not every agent is thorough with what they do, I found that out for myself.
• This is also true for a sales or purchase transaction. If you’re looking to buy or sell real estate.
