There. I said it. 😂

This came up on Southwest of Normal, and apparently there’s not much room for negotiation.

Die Hard?

Top of the list.

Elf?

Good.

Home Alone?

Classic.

But Brad’s ruling?

Die Hard is still above both. Clearly.

The problem with Christmas movie debates is everybody has their own definition of what actually counts.

The solution?

Quit trying to settle it scientifically. This is Christmas movie law. Pick your side and defend it.

Simple how-to: grab the family, pick your Christmas movie, order the food, and settle the argument from the couch.

Aquarium restaurant: overrated? 👀

That’s the debate.

Because sometimes you’re not just judging a restaurant by what lands on the plate.

You’re judging the whole experience.

Atmosphere matters.
The setting matters.
And sometimes that changes your perspective completely.

The problem is expecting every restaurant to win on food alone when part of what you’re paying for is the experience around it.

The solution?

Know what kind of night you’re looking for.

Simple how-to: if you want a straight-up food destination, judge it that way. If you want something memorable and different, factor the atmosphere into the equation too.

So what’s your vote?

I’m officially done with gray wood-look LVP.

And apparently we’re throwing white quartz into the conversation too. 😂

This came up on Southwest of Normal, and I get it.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with gray floors or white quartz.

The problem is when every house starts looking like the same house with a different address.

Gray floor.
White surface.
Repeat.

At some point?

Bring me character.

The solution isn’t chasing the next trend either.

It’s choosing finishes that actually fit the house and feel like something you’ll still like when Instagram moves on.

Simple how-to: before you remodel or pick builder finishes, ask yourself whether you actually love it—or whether you’ve just seen it 400 times.

This real estate scam stole $180,000.

That is not a typo.

This episode 20 of Southwest of Normal gets into one of the ugliest parts of the business: fraud that looks legitimate until somebody realizes the money is gone.

This is where people get sideways.

The problem is scammers do not usually show up sounding shady. They show up looking organized, urgent, and believable. A fake email. Changed wiring instructions. A message that sounds close enough to real that somebody follows it.

Then the money is gone.

The solution is simple, but it requires discipline.

Slow down and verify everything.

Simple how-to:

Never trust wiring instructions sent only by email or text
Call the title company or trusted party using a known phone number
Verify every detail before sending money
If anything changes at the last minute, stop and confirm it again

This sounds small until it costs someone six figures.

$3 BILLION… or $8 BILLION?

Apparently even the Yellowstone Ranch can’t escape a real estate valuation debate. 😂

In this Southwest of Normal clip, the numbers get ridiculous fast.

A conservative estimate puts the ranch around $3 billion.

A common fan estimate?

$7–8 BILLION.

And that difference makes a pretty good point about real estate.

The problem is seeing one number attached to a property and assuming that must be the value.

It isn’t always that simple.

The solution is understanding how somebody got to the number.

Simple how-to: look at the land, location, comparable sales, improvements, current market, and the assumptions being used before you decide what something is actually worth.

That applies whether we’re talking about a fictional Montana ranch…

Or your house in Fort Bend County.

If the beer menu requires homework, you’re probably at the right place.

Flying Saucer has been part of Downtown Houston’s beer scene for years.

The big draw is variety.

A huge rotating selection, different styles to try, flights if you cannot decide, and the UFO Club that explains all those plates covering the place.

The problem with saying, “I don’t like beer,” is sometimes that really means:

“I don’t like the three beers I’ve tried.”

The solution?

Experiment a little.

Simple how-to: tell the staff what you normally like, ask for a recommendation or sample where available, and try something outside your usual order.

Worst case?

You learned what not to order next time.

Area: Downtown Houston.

If you’re drinking, plan the ride home before you start working your way through the beer list.

Indecision can cost you more than failure.

That was the point in this Southwest of Normal conversation.

Some of the biggest problems I’ve seen didn’t come from somebody making a decision that turned out wrong.

They came from not making the decision at all.

Waiting.

Second-guessing.

Letting the problem sit there while the fallout gets bigger.

The solution isn’t making reckless decisions.

It’s getting the information you need and moving.

Simple how-to: understand your options, decide what you can reasonably know today, make the best call you can, and adjust if you learn something new.

Because what happens if you make the decision and fail?

You learn something.

That beats sitting still and letting indecision make the decision for you.

You know the tamales are good when the story includes “still hot” and “gunshots.” 😂

That’s where this episode of Southwest of Normal went.

Because when December rolls around?

It’s tamale season.

And around Fort Bend County, everybody seems to know somebody who knows somebody who makes the ones you actually want.

The problem?

Waiting until the last minute and expecting the good tamales to magically appear.

The solution?

Find your tamale person early.

Simple how-to: ask your local friends who they order from, get your order in before Christmas week, and buy enough that you’re not angry when somebody eats the last one.

Because grocery-store tamales and somebody’s tamale lady in Rosenberg are two very different conversations.

You probably look at these every day without actually seeing them.

Outlet covers and switch plates.

Yellowed plastic, cracked plates, and mismatched styles can quietly make a room feel older than it is.

For homeowners in the Richmond area of Fort Bend County, replacing them is an inexpensive way to clean up the details.

The solution is consistency.

Simple how-to: walk room by room, note damaged or mismatched plates, turn off power where appropriate, and replace them with clean plates that fit correctly.
