A home designed by the person who lives in it is held to a different standard.

Old Village Friend in Mt. Pleasant was designed by architect Alan Smith — who is also the homeowner. When the architect is also the client, every design decision carries the full weight of the life that will be lived inside it. There is no translation between what was conceived and what was wanted. No compromise between the architect's intent and the owner's expectations. They are the same person.

There is a version of Sullivan's Island that only shows itself in September.

The summer crowd pulls back. The light softens. The pace of the island settles into something closer to what it actually is — quieter, more considered, more itself.

Idyll on Sullivan's Island was designed by Sandlapper Design Group with interiors by Interiors by Herlong. A renovation that read the original home carefully and gave it a design language suited to how Sullivan's Island lives across the full year — not just the months that fill the rental calendar. September on Isle of Palms is when a home designed for real coastal life shows what it actually is.

Casa de Sun and the Beach was designed in-house by our architect Anita King — with interiors by Tae, landscape by Jody Furman, and photography by Nick Cann. The home was built for how Isle of Palms lives across the full year: outdoor spaces that work in August and in November, interiors that carry warmth when the season calls for it, and a design that responds to the island's quieter months as well as its fullest ones.

Marvin doors and windows connect the interior to the island setting in a way that earns the relationship between inside and out rather than simply creating one.

This is what a custom home on a coastal island looks like when it was designed for the life, not the listing.

The Lowcountry light shifts at the end of August. The heat holds but something in the quality of the evening changes — and the homes designed for all twelve months of Sullivan's Island show what they are made of in this season.

𝗟𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿 was designed in-house by our architect Anita King with that kind of year-round living in mind. Anne Williams brought an interior design discipline that carries warmth through every season without depending on any one of them — material choices and a color palette that hold as the light shifts from midsummer to fall. Glen Gardner's landscape holds the connection between the home and the island setting. The Euro-Wall system opens the home fully to the outdoors — drawing in the evening light and the landscape when the season allows, and closing completely when it doesn't.
