Fact check: Florida Republicans have controlled the governor’s office and both legislative chambers since 1999—and now hold legislative supermajorities. The meme omits Governor Charlie Crist, who served from 2007 to 2011; however, Crist was elected as a Republican and became an independent only in 2010.
Long-term control does not mean one party caused every state problem. It does mean that after nearly three decades of controlling Florida’s laws, budgets and executive agencies, Republicans cannot credibly campaign as powerless outsiders arriving to repair someone else’s government.
