Power, Internet, and phones were restored to our office yesterday late afternoon/early evening. The majority of homes in the area now have power as of yesterday evening. However internet, cable, and phone services still have widespread outages; but they are jumping right on it.

08/04/2020

We are still without power, internet, and some of our phone service. We hope to up soon!

08/04/2020

Initial assessments show a lot of power outages. Our offices are currently without power, internet, phones. Cellular service is very spotty (had to drive around until I found a spot with a strong enough signal to post this). A lot of cable/internet lines are down in the streets. The oceanfront looks very sandblasted with most oceanfront homes coated in sand, and most vehicles. Overall the damage is minor, but probably slightly more than expected. A very small percentage of houses lost siding or roof material. More updates will follow. Initial assessments show mostly a utility event. However most people are still asleep from staying up late through the storm.

08/03/2020

Normal trash service will occur on Monday for the existing routes.

The trash schedule for Tuesday will be postponed to Wednesday, which means the north end of the island and mainland will be picked up Wednesday.

PLEASE PULL ALL TRASH CARTS IN AND SECURE THEM IMMEDIATELY.

Topsail Beach Curfew. Please stay on YOUR property.

The Town of Topsail Beach is now in a State of Emergency as of 9 am this morning. Although an evacuation has not been ordered, a curfew is in effect from sunset today (Monday, August 3) until sunrise tomorrow (Tuesday, August 4). Residents, property owners, and visitors are encouraged to stay indoors but are allowed only on their property during the curfew hours.

With sustained winds of 70 mph, Tropical Storm Isaias is currently off the coast of Florida moving north at 13 mph. Isaias is forecasted to regain hurricane strength before projected landfall somewhere around the South Carolina/North Carolina border. The current forecast indicates our area will likely experience sustained winds of 60-65 mph, with maximum gusts of 75 mph. Rainfall estimates could be as high as 3” - 6”, and a surge of 2’-4’ is possible. The storm is expected to move through our area overnight and exit quickly by early Tuesday morning. See the attached document for additional information.

Be aware that the high rise bridge in Surf City will be restricted to oncoming traffic once the sustained winds reach 45 mph, but exiting the island will remain permissible throughout the storm at your own risk.

While the forecast shows the center of the storm tracking to the west of Topsail Beach, be aware that even a slight change in the storm track could change impacts dramatically. Please continue to monitor the weather and the Town's website for updates.

We are only finding very minor and sporadic property damage so far. The beach strand looks prettier than ever with many cases of additional sand compliments of Dorian. It's a gorgeous day, although still a bit breezy. We are rapidly getting ready for tomorrow's check-ins! Can't wait to see our guests!

The bridge is open to the island. We are in the process of reopening the office and beginning property assessments. There is currently sporadic power outages, but should hopefully be resolved quickly. The island is under a boil water advisory until all systems can be properly assessed. What we've seen so far is GOOD!!!

Photos from Surf City Officials. Looks good! Mostly a little bit of wind blown sand and rain puddling.
