BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT

APRIL 24, 2026

Onslow County Emergency Services and local law enforcement have responded to 60 calls for service related to outdoor fires, grass fires, smoke investigations, and fires threatening structures since the county initiated a burn ban on March 21, 2026.

The burn ban remains in effect for Onslow County, meaning no open burning at all until conditions improve for Onslow County. Open burning includes burning leaves, branches, or other plant material. In all cases, burning trash, lumber, tires, newspaper, plastics, or other non-vegetative material is illegal.

Current weather conditions, including increased wind and elevated fire danger, continue to create a serious risk for fire spread.

Important update: Even permits previously issued by the state are no longer valid under the ban.

Please use caution and help prevent unnecessary fire emergencies by avoiding any outdoor burning until conditions improve. We will share updates as soon as restrictions are lifted.
