Five years ago today, I became a licensed Realtor.
If you had told me then what this journey would become, I never would have believed you.
Looking back, it’s amazing how life has a way of putting the right pieces in place. In 2020 (when lives were turned upside down), I was furloughed from my job, and while the circumstances weren’t what anyone expected, it gave me something priceless—amazing quality time with my kids. It also gave me the opportunity to step back and think about what I really wanted for our family’s future.
I’d always loved real estate. As a teenager, I’d go to open houses just for fun. Later, I married a guy who’d bought into investment properties rather than moving out on his own, and my interest only grew stronger. One day, in 2021, I turned to Jeremy and said: “What would you think if I said I wanted to get my real estate license?” His response was simple: “It’s about time.”
I thought I’d help a few families each year while learning more about real estate and investing. I had no idea it would become a career that I truly love.
Real estate is harder than I ever imagined. There are countless moving parts, early mornings, long days, late nights, and plenty of work that never results in a closing. But there are also moments that make every bit of it worthwhile.
I’ve had the privilege of helping first-time buyers get their keys, families find the home where they’ll make lifelong memories, seniors begin a new chapter by downsizing, and children navigate the difficult task of settling a loved one’s estate. Along the way, clients have become friends. They don’t just share the exciting moments—engagements, pregnancies, remodeling projects, and new beginnings. They also trust me with some of life’s hardest moments, sharing diagnoses, the loss of loved ones, and other deeply personal struggles. Those conversations remind me that this career has never really been about houses. It’s about people, relationships, trust, and being there through every season of life.
One of the greatest gifts this career has given me is flexibility. It has allowed me to be present for my family while building a business I’m proud of. Yes, that has sometimes meant answering calls from a basketball game, texting at track meets, working from my laptop during family vacations, or frantically responding to emails from an airport terminal or even the deck of a cruise ship. My family has supported me through all of it, and I’m incredibly thankful for that.
To every client who has trusted me, every colleague who has answered a question, every lender, title company, inspector, contractor, photographer, appraiser, friend, and family member who has been part of this journey—thank you. You have all played a role in these first five years.
I can’t believe it’s already been five years, and I honestly can’t wait to see what the next five bring.
