Really good info in this crazy weather season!
It’s storm season!
What should you do if your home experiences damage from the storm?
1st- Walk around your house. Do you see any damage? Take pictures! If you need something immediately cleaned up you will need pictures for your insurance to reimburse you.
2nd- Give us a call! Remember, if your repairs are LESS than your deductible, or just a little over, you still get a ding on your homeowner’s insurance history of a filed claim! For example, just a couple shingles blow off. Your deductible is $1,000, but the total charge is only $1,100. That means your insurance will cut you a check for only $100 (since you are responsible for your deductible!) We give you an honest assessment and advise if it is worth a claim. In addition, if your damage is high enough to warrant a claim, we will represent you when an adjuster comes and point out all the damage so you get everything needed covered to bring your home back to pre-storm condition.
3rd- Don’t fall for “storm chasers.” These companies flock to area’s of damage, pressure you into signing with them and leave the area as quick as they came. How do you get door knockers to leave? Tell them you already have a roofer. Then, call a local, brick and mortar, company. One that has been around for years, and one that you can find reviews online for. In addition, these storm chasers will make you think you only have a limited time to call your insurance. The truth is, based on your policy, you have at least a couple months to make your claim, some up to a year.
4th- PLEASE do your due-diligence- there are many reputable companies in the area, however, there are also many that aren’t reputable and will come from all over (even different states) to take advantage of you! Make sure they have the following:
-If they are doing any roofing on your home, they MUST be licensed by the State of Illinois. See our license, and look up others at: https://onlinedfpr.micropact.com/lookup/licenselookup.aspx (you can enter our license number: 104.015799)
-Make sure they can provide you with a certificate of insurance, make sure it includes not only their general liability but also workman’s comp. This insures if there are any accidents on your property they are fully covered.
-Do they have a business location you can go to? How long have they been there? If their address is a PO Box, that is a huge red flag!
-Check their reviews online. Visit Facebook, Google, and the Better Business Bureau websites. Some companies may even have additional review sites, such as Guild Quality. Check out our reviews at: https://www.guildquality.com/pro/aandb-exteriors-llc
