Just to show you I don't know what the hell I'm doing, it seems I'm no longer a founding member of this group! I'm just the guy who started it. LOL

Here's another of my favorite stories:

Maybe you're familiar with the Black at Bethpage. There's a sign on the fence stating the Black is a very hard course which is only recommended for highly skilled golfers.

My buddy (same guy as last story) and I decided to play the Black back in the bakery ticket days. We sign up and go out for breakfast, lost track of time, and got to the course later than we should have, just in time to meet the other 2 golfers in our foursome who were already ono the tee.

Kenny says to me, "You put on your shoes, I'll hit." Swing and a miss. Swing and a miss. Swing and the ball goes about 4 inches. Swing and a miss.

Now I have my shoes on. He says to me, "You hit. I'll put my shoes on.". So, I hate to brag, but I striped one past the dog leg.

Kenny finishes tying his shoes. Swing and a miss. Swing and he shanks one into the bushes separating the 1st tee on the Black from the 1st tee on the Green. "Throw me a ball.".

Now the crowd waiting to tee off is getting royally pi**ed off.

Kenny hits one not long, but right in the middle of the fairway. He turns to the crowd, leans on his driver, crosses his legs at the ankle, and says, "Boy this is a tough course!".

The crowd cracked up. Kenny and I both played pretty well after that. As always, a great day on the Black.

This week's Featured Golf Community (FGG) is Bretton Woods in Coram. It's a great development, gated with a live guard, great golf course, and great amenities.

About a year ago it was possible to get a place in hear that needed work for under 200k. Those times are gone and like most places, prices are going up. There are only 2 condos available in this community as of this writing.

Call for an appointment and I'll be happy to take you in.

Here's one of my favorite golf stories. This is absolutely true.

In the late 70s I was teaching full time at Nassau Community College and very close friend was working in the insurance industry in Massapequa. We decided to play 9 holes before work, but didn't have time to take 1 car and go back and forth. We took 2 cars and decided to go straight to work after golf.

On our way to the course, my car broke down. My friend, Kenneth Gelber, pushed my 1970 LeMans with his little Capri for about a mile to the entrance Eisenhower Park, then another half mile to the golf course parking lot.

Unknown to me, a cop followed us all the way from the intersection of Old Country Rd and Merrick Ave. When I got out of my car I saw Kenny standing in the parking lot, talking to the police officer, who had a dumbfounded look on his face. I promise you, this was a guy who didn't know which end was up. Then he drove away.

I asked Kenny what the hell was going on? What did you say to this guy? He replied, "Well you see officer, we wanted to play golf this morning, but my car is too small to fit 2 people and 2 sets of clubs and my friend's car doesn't work. So we put the clubs in his car and I pushed him here.".

This week I'm featuring a great golf course community on LI: Birchwood at Spring Lake. They offer 2-3 br condos at at what I think is a very reasonable price considering the amenities they offer. Below are links to their main web site and a tour of the golf course. The tour doesn't do the course justice. This is one of the most beautiful 9-hole executive courses you'll ever see. The architect in my opinion, is brilliant! Enjoy your viewing!

This week I'm featuring the Hamlet Golf & Country Club in Commack, NY. The Hamlet offers a variety of upscale amenities including a beautiful golf course, top flight tennis courts, and a swimming pool. In fact, before the ATP Tour changed it's schedule, the Hamlet hosted a pro tennis tournament. In 1992 I saw Jimmy Connors play there. I used to play in the qualifying tournament for that event.
Anyway, It's a fine club. Here's their website: https://www.clubcorp.com/Clubs/Hamlet-Golf-Country-Club

Let me start with a golf course that is not on LI just to get the page going. It's a town-owned course called Tarry Brae and is located in S Fallsburg, NY.

It's a beautiful course and in great shape. Imagine playing a course that looks like the pics posted here, for $40! And that includes lunch! 1 more thing, it's an all-day greens fee. You just pay for the cart if you want to go around again. Just 1 more thing, you can play your 2nd round at another town course called Lochmore.
