🏘️ This Tuesday, we welcomed representatives from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to the East Adams neighborhood for an up-close look at the progress of the East Adams Transformation!

The visit included a walking tour of the neighborhood, where we highlighted the work underway on active Phases 1 and 2, as well as the broader revitalization efforts taking place through critical community investments being made by the City of Syracuse. The group also toured both an existing and newly renovated apartment at Almus Olver Towers (AOT), providing a firsthand look at the improvements being made for residents.

Thank you to our partners who joined us for the visit, including the Syracuse Housing Authority, City of Syracuse, Blueprint 15, McCormack Baron Salazar (MBS) and Urban Strategies, Inc. (USI).

We’re grateful for the continued collaboration and shared commitment to transforming East Adams and creating new opportunities for residents and the surrounding community. 🏗️🏡

Looking for a job? We’re hosting a job fair on Thursday, September 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CNY Works. Representatives from departments with open positions will be on-site to answer questions and accept applications. We’re also looking for applicants with CDLs as we prep for the upcoming winter months, so stop by and learn about the jobs we have for CDL drivers.

The Relatives Acting as Parents Program (R.A.P.P.) provides support, connection, and resources for adults 55 and older who are caring for a relative age 18 or younger.

Participants can enjoy monthly support meetings at the Pioneer Homes Coffee House, where they can connect with others, enjoy conversation, and learn about helpful community resources. Families also participate in monthly activities like trips to the zoo, museum visits, apple picking, the New York State Fair, and more! 🍎🦁🎡

🎓 Congratulations to Marquita D. Hetherington, the 2026 Syracuse University Co-Generation Steam Plant Scholarship recipient! 🍊

A lifelong Syracuse resident with deep roots in SHA communities, Marquita’s journey from growing up in Pioneer Homes and Central Village to becoming a community leader and housing advocate is a powerful example of perseverance, leadership, and service.

Marquita is continuing her education at Syracuse University’s Whitman School of Management, pursuing undergraduate studies in Management while continuing her work to expand housing stability, financial empowerment, and homeownership opportunities for Syracuse families.

Established in 1988 through a partnership between Syracuse University and the Syracuse Housing Authority, the scholarship helps support the educational goals of deserving members of our community by covering tuition and fees, books, and housing.

SHA is proud to celebrate Marquita’s accomplishments and invest in the next chapter of her education. We are also grateful to Syracuse University for recognizing the importance of this scholarship to our community and for its continued commitment to providing opportunities for SHA residents.
