Two Words. Big C. Catching coho & Dungeness crab on the Columbia River. King salmon closed & some commercial nets getting a short opener. The Good News? Coho daily limits are now 3 hatchery fish instead of 2 & the crabs fill out their shells in late season. Friendships go back over 50 years with this crew. Our skipper is a fish guru & has us working together…although when a triple happens with six poles it gets a little wild…another day for Major Excitement on the boat! Limits both days, pretty calm seas & sunshine. Surrounded by beautiful scenery on the edge of the ocean. Limits on both & bounty shared with many. Astoria is a fabulous town to visit, great downtown, excellent dining & a Maritime Museum that will blow your mind.

Two Words. Salmon SuperBowl! Arguably the best tides of the year last week in Astoria on the Columbia River. Boat limited both days I fished. Chrome coho & kings. The coho we catch next month will gain a few pounds over these fish. But the far contact was amazing in my coho dinner. Fun fishing with the skipper & friend I’ve known since junior high. An even older friend on the second day that goes back to elementary school.
