When grabbing keys for my clients who closed on their new home yesterday (fun story coming soon), getting everything ready for the official handoff this weekend 🔑🏡 Nancy and I decided to pop into The Spar while we were in the neighborhood.

And if you don’t know The Spar…you should. 🍻

Tucked into Tacoma’s historic Old Town neighborhood, The Spar is widely recognized as Tacoma’s oldest operating tavern, with roots dating all the way back to the 1880s. And its history is very Tacoma.

The original spot was known as a hub for drinking, gambling and a little bit of vice. By the 1910s, amid increasing lawlessness and approaching statewide Prohibition, the original structure was torn down.

The building standing today came along in the 1920s and had a few lives of its own — a men’s clothing store, billiards hall, soft drink parlor and lunch counter. In 1926, it was officially given the name “The Spar.”

Then came 1933. Prohibition was repealed, the drinks started flowing again, and The Spar officially returned to its neighborhood-tavern roots. 🍺

Nearly a century later, you can still walk through those doors, grab a drink and sit inside a little piece of Tacoma history.

One of the things I love about this city, there’s a story around just about every corner. ❤️

Some connections never truly end.

Sometimes, the people we miss find gentle ways to remind us they’re still near. A feather on your path. A familiar song at the perfect moment. A butterfly, a scent, a dream, or a number that keeps appearing when you need it most.

Maybe these moments aren’t coincidences. Maybe they’re quiet reminders that love doesn’t disappear; it simply changes form.

After years of spiritual readings, I’ve come to believe that our loved ones remain closer than we realize. Their presence may be unseen, but the connection endures.

When you begin to pay attention, you may discover that you’re never as alone as you think.
