A new ordinance passed in April by Olympia City Council provides additional protections for Olympia renters, which went into effect on May 21, 2024. Renters and landlords are invited to a series of Olympia rental housing virtual evening information sessions in June and July to learn more about these changes, landlord resources, and the new Rental Registry and Inspection Program. Sessions will include a presentation, opportunities to ask questions, and be recorded and added to City webpages. More info below 👇👇👇

Learn more about resources available for conflict resolution, funding for weatherization, energy efficiency upgrades, or repairs for landlords who provide affordable housing or rent to a tenant who receives rental subsidies. Information will be provided about the State’s Landlord Mitigation Fund, Dispute Resolution Center, Buildings Upgrade Pilot Program and Olympia’s Rental Rehabilitation Revolving Loan Fund.

Olympia landlords are now required to get a business license and register their properties with the City (without passing along these fees to renters) to comply with the program requirements. Starting in 2025, landlords will also be required to complete a health and safety property inspection once every 5 years (some exceptions apply).
